The West Wimmera region has significant opportunities for growth and diversification, especially in the foundation industries of agriculture and tourism. The emerging growth sectors include health services, value-add to agricultural product, feed production, dairy and aquaculture.

In the region, agriculture is the most productive industry, generating $156.434 million in 2014-15. This sector includes units mainly engaged in growing crops, raising animals, growing and harvesting timber, and harvesting fish and other animals from farms or their natural habitats.
