West Wimmera Shire Council presented two Australia Day 2018 Awards today, during Australia Day celebrations around the Shire.
"I am delighted to announce that Kelvin Burns is our Citizen of the Year for 2018" said Mayor Jodie Pretlove.
"Kelvin is a generous and dedicated community-minded individual, who has made an outstanding contribution to the Edenhope Race Club, the Edenhope Agricultural Show Committee and the Patyah Country Fire Authority over a significant number of years" said Mayor Pretlove.
Mr Burns has held every committee position at the Edenhope Race Club, has spent more than 50 years assisting the Edenhope Agricultural Show – including 30 years as Chief Show Jumping Steward, and has been a member of the Patyah Country Fire Authority for more than 50 years. All three groups have formally recognised his volunteering work with them, by awarding Mr Burns with life membership.
"Our second Australia Day Award is for the Community Event of the Year, which has been awarded to Linda & Sandy's Christmas Lunch" said Mayor Pretlove.
This Christmas Day event is organised by Edenhope residents Linda Guthridge and Sandy Clutterbuck, with the assistance of local volunteers.
"Linda and Sandy created this event to reach out to those most in need during the festive season, who may otherwise be isolated and alone on Christmas Day" said Mayor Pretlove.
"We commend today's award winners for their selfless and proactive contribution to our local community" said Mayor Pretlove.
Both awards were presented at the Edenhope Australia Day event.
