We were very pleased to hear that more mobile phone towers will be constructed within West Wimmera, creating much needed connectivity.
The Federal Government has announced that Telstra will build new towers at Telopea Downs and Langkoop, which will benefit our residents and surrounding businesses. A further tower on the edge of the Shire at Yanac will mean that those living north of Kaniva can expect much improved mobile coverage. I must say it is very encouraging to see that our requests are being listened to and acted on.
It was also great to see the National Broadband Network (NBN) officially connected in Edenhope at the end of last month.
A range of projects within West Wimmera are steadily progressing before our eyes. The works for the Lake Wallace Foreshore Upgrade are well advanced, with a new keystone retaining wall structure being installed. A large section of the boat ramp will also be replaced, along with improved access to the jetty.
The contractor for the redevelopment of the Edenhope Hall site has commenced preliminary earthworks for the slab and plumbing associated with the first stage of construction. The first stage will contain the library building, a board room facility, a common activity space, kitchenette and full kitchen, along with toilet and storage facilities.
Works to restore the Kaniva Shire Hall are continuing, with approximately 75% of the internal and external painting now completed.
The reconstruction of the Mooree Bridge is due to be completed within the next month, which will enable temporary weight limits to be lifted. The reconstruction of the Ozenkadnook-Mortat Road is also well advanced.
The Kaniva Cultural and Community Precinct Project is steadily reaching completion, with the play space almost complete, shelters constructed, flying fox installed, roads upgraded and walking tracks under construction.
Finally, it was my pleasure to attend the highly successful Edenhope Debutante Ball. The evening was a credit to all those involved, in particular Edenhope College Student Georgia Baxter, who displayed exceptional leadership and was the driving force behind this well organised event.
