Council has recommenced mosquito control measures for the 2017-2018 season. This will help combat public health risks from vectorborne disease and mitigate mosquito nuisance.
A number of priority sites known for breeding have been identifi ed for larvicide treatment and larval surveillance.
The larvicide is a growth regulator which mimics mosquito hormones, preventing adult development. Importantly it is mosquito selective and has no impact on other plant or animal species.
Council is also continuing to deliver the Victorian Government's 'Beat the Bite' campaign, highlighting awareness of the risk of mosquitoborne diseases and their prevention. More information on Beat the Bite and be found online at www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/campaigns/beat-the-bite
