West Wimmera Shire Council has adopted its Council Plan 2021-2025, 20-year Community Vision and Long Term Financial Plan 2021-2030, following a community engagement process.

The documents, which will guide the future direction of the Council were adopted at the 18th of October 2021 Council Meeting.

The Council Plan sets out the Councils strategic direction for the next four years serving as a blueprint to build a progressive, knowledge-based Council that embraces innovation, culture and sustainable living.

This year Council is creating a holistic approach to bettering services in our community by incorporating the Health and wellbeing Plan requirements into the Council Plan.

The Long Term Financial Plan 2021-2030 identifies Council's current and projected financial capacity to continue delivering high-quality services, facilities and infrastructure. Guiding the future strategies and actions of Council to ensure that it continues to operate in a sustainable manner.

The 20-year Community Vision describes the long-term aspirations that the community has for West Wimmera and will guide the Councils strategic planning out to 2041.

The plan sets out Councils 4 values; innovative, accountable, united and collaborative which also guide behaviour and decision making.

The Council Plan has been put together over 8 months with input from Councillors, staff and community members. Council based the Council Plan on feedback received during pro-active and deliberate community consultation. Over 500 residents took up the opportunity to tell Council what was important to them, and strategic directions have been tailor-made specifically to meet the needs of West Wimmera ratepayers and residents.

At the centre of the Council Plan are four key themes: liveable and healthy community; diverse and prosperous economy; sustainable environment; and good governance. A new fifth goal has been included, which is Council’s commitment. This plan seeks to reconcile the need for following best practice, economic growth with the sustainability, and enhancement of our natural and built assets in our unique location.

Council wants to capitalise on the opportunities and invest in other areas of infrastructure in the community. This plan provides the opportunity to consider the future; to focus on what is important and to move forward through planned delivery to maintain a sustainable financial position.

The draft documents were placed on public exhibition from 31 August 2021 and 20 September 2021.

Council will also be putting together an annual plan and budget with details on specific projects and programs.
