Volunteers Refresher & Appreciation Day

Join us for the Volunteers Refresher & Appreciation Day hosted by West Wimmera Shire Council on Thursday 23rd of March at the Kaniva Shire Hall Supper room and Friday 31st of March at Edenhope and District Community Centre. These events will commence at 10:15 am for a 10:30 am start.

We take immense pride in having the highest rate of volunteerism in Victoria, and to show our appreciation, we have organized a day to focus on looking after our volunteers. While we will be refreshing our training and policies, we promise to make it worthwhile with a delicious lunch and fantastic company.

Please note that due to a change in the Aged Care Quality Standards, Council is required to keep a record of all Meals on Wheels and Volunteer Drivers, including driver's license, car registration, and insurance. Kindly bring these documents to the training session, and we'll take a copy for our records to assist the West Wimmera Shire Council in meeting the Aged Care Quality Standards.

We have invited Good Country Physio to take us through the best practices for Occupational Health and Safety, with a focus on manual handling to ensure we look after our bodies while carrying out volunteer duties. The sessions will be informative, and you can ask questions as we go along.

Lunch will be served at 12 noon, and everyone is encouraged to stay and enjoy a catch-up.

In the afternoon, we will commence the Companion Transport Program, which is a new program the Council is rolling out across the Shire. This program offers social support to people registered with My Aged Care, with trained volunteers supporting them to get to appointments as far as Nhill, Horsham, Hamilton, Naracoorte, and Mt Gambier. If you know someone who might be interested in volunteering for this program, please ask them to contact us.

We are also recruiting for the Volunteer Taxi Service in both Edenhope and Kaniva, which requires volunteers to use their car to transport senior members of the community to appointments within the township area. Volunteers will need to undergo a police check paid for by the Council and have comprehensive car insurance, a driver's license, and agree to keep their car in a roadworthy clean condition.

We encourage as many of you as possible to attend this day, as it promises to be a great one.

Please RSVP by Monday 20 March via email or phone.
