West Wimmera Shire Council wishes to inform the community that its recent funding applications for the Federal Government's Growing Regions Fund were unsuccessful.

Council had submitted applications for two significant community projects: the upgrade of Edenhope Lions Park and the construction of a new Kaniva Splash Park.

The proposed $1-million Edenhope Lions Park project aimed to provide new play equipment for all abilities and ages, an extended skate park, improved amenities, and spaces for family gatherings.

The $1-million Kaniva Splash Park project was intended to transform the existing toddler pool at the Kaniva Swimming Pool into an all-abilities water play space featuring various water play features.

Unfortunately, neither project was selected for funding.

The Growing Regions Program provided funding for the design and delivery of precincts, or ‘places with purpose’, to meet place-based community priorities.

There were 40 successful projects in this round of funding, from right across Australia, including only six in Victoria.

While West Wimmera Shire council’s projects were not among those funded, Council remains committed to pursuing these important developments for the community.

Should further funding opportunities arise, Council will actively pursue them to bring these projects to fruition.

Currently, there are no open state or federal government grant opportunities available. Council anticipates new funding streams will not become available until later in the year.

Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said while the outcome was disappointing, Council remained optimistic about the future.

“We appreciate the community's understanding and continued support as we work towards enhancing our region,” he said.
