West Wimmera Shire Council along with all the emergency service agencies including Victoria Police, CFA and Vic SES are responsible for developing and implementing strategies to assist communities both during and after natural and manmade emergency events.

The Emergency Management Act 1986 and the Local Government Act 1989 outline the important role Councils play in Victoria's emergency management arrangements in particular Council's connection to the community.
