With the current crisis of trying to control the spread COVID-19 in communities in Australia, rural communities need everyone help by eliminating non-essential travel in or through the region.

Here in West Wimmera, we have a number of health services that do a fantastic job, but are limited at times for resources. We all need to do our bit to help these health professionals over the coming months by adhering to the government direction and not take any unnecessary risks. By this I mean risks to ourselves, our families and our fellow Wimmera residents.

With our local supermarkets working extremely hard to make sure that the local West Wimmera population receives sufficient supplies, we need people to help them to ensure that there's enough to go round.

So please only travel when you absolutely have to and only buy only what you need and look after our community's greatest asset, its people.

By following the steps suggested by the government and the health experts, we can get through this and come out the other side as a strong region, with very supportive communities.

I would also like to thank all of the West Wimmera people in the businesses who are providing a great community service. These include, health professionals, supermarkets and take away food facilities, fuel stations, local media and other essential government services.

Thank you

Bruce Meyer

Mayor – West Wimmera Shire Council.
