West Wimmera Shire Council is proposing to name the unnamed road that runs west off D Hawkers Road in the Parish of Lillimur to Zenda Lane.
Currently, this unnamed road is not listed on the council's road register. However, as it is maintained by council, it is intended to add this road to the road register during the next review.
In recognising the importance of road names for directing emergency services and facilitating mail delivery, council aims to ensure that this section of road is properly identified.
In accordance with council's responsibilities under the Local Government Act 1989 and the Geographic Place Names Act 1998, council must observe the naming rules established by Geographic Names Victoria.
Council believes that naming this road “Zenda Lane” would be a fitting tribute to Zenda Hawker, who served as a beloved and respected Maternal Child Health Nurse in Kaniva for over 25 years.
Zenda was instrumental in initiating Kaniva’s Playgroup, making a significant impact on the lives of many families in our community.
