West Wimmera Shire Council will run Volunteer Refresher and Appreciation Days in Kaniva and Edenhope.

The events will be on March 23 at the Kaniva Shire Hall Supper room and March 31 at Edenhope and District Community Centre. These events will start at 10.30am.

The events aim to acknowledge and thank the volunteers, while also providing a platform to refresh the Council's training and policies with volunteers.

Due to changes in the Aged Care Quality Standards, volunteers for Meals on Wheels and Volunteer Drivers are required to bring their driver's license, car registration, and insurance to the training session.

The sessions will feature Good Country Physio, who will provide volunteers with Occupational Health and Safety best practices, with a focus on manual handling to ensure volunteers can look after their bodies while carrying out volunteer duties.

Lunch will be served at 12 noon, and all attendees are encouraged to stay and catch up.

In the afternoon, the Companion Transport Program information will commence, a new program the Council is rolling out across the Shire, offering social support to people registered with My Aged Care.

Volunteers can support people to get to appointments as far as Nhill, Horsham, Hamilton, Naracoorte, and Mt Gambier.

For those interested in volunteering, the Council is recruiting for the Volunteer Taxi Service in both Edenhope and Kaniva, requiring volunteers to undergo a police check and have comprehensive car insurance, a driver's license, and agree to keep their car in a roadworthy clean condition.

Council encourages as many people as possible to attend the event, and please RSVP by Monday, March 20 via phone 139972 or email amandamunn@westwimmera.vic.gov.au.
