West Wimmera Shire Council is seeking an experienced and motivated civil works professional to take a leading role in maintaining and enhancing our vital road network. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, handson leader who values safety, quality work, and efficient service delivery.
As our Works Coordinator (Road Maintenance), you will play a key role in ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of road maintenance and selected capital improvement programs, with a strong emphasis on grading and construction across our unsealed road network.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the routine grading maintenance of unsealed roads within allocated budgets.
- Lead and support grading crews, providing technical and practical guidance as needed.
- Coordinate work teams, haulage trucks and contractors to optimise efficiency and cost effectiveness.
- Work closely with Superintendent, Engineers and Management to plan and deliver works.
- Undertake quality assurance checks, site inspections and defect assessments.
- Allocate daily tasks, plant, materials and equipment to crews.
- Liaise with workshop and depot staff to ensure operational readiness of plant and equipment and other resources.
- Ensure all staff and contractors follow approved standards and safe work practices.
- Manage response to customer requests and ensure required actions and reporting are undertaken in a timely manner.

- Demonstrated experience in unsealed road maintenance and civil works operations.
- Strong team leadership and communication skills.
- Commitment to safe work practices and highquality service delivery.
- The ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate multiple tasks and resources.
- Supervisory or management experience in a local government context would be highly regarded.
