The State Government fire services - Country Fire Authority (CFA), Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) - have announced a new online system for fire permits called Fire Permits Victoria which affects how permits will be managed in the shire going forward.

Fire Permits Victoria will manage the application, receipt, review, management and notification process for all new fire permits in Victoria.

The website is now live and shire residents can apply for a permit online at www.firepermits.vic.gov.au

Additional information regarding the new system can be requested by contacting safer.together@delwp.vic.gov.au

If the online system is not accessible, residents can apply in person for a fire permit at council or any CFA, DELWP or FRV office in the region.

The fire services intend to implement this system at a local government level in due course.

Interim Chief Executive Officer Paul Brumby sees the new fire permit system as a tremendous timesaver for residents.

“I know our community will be very happy to hear the fire permit system is now paperless,” he said.

“It makes tracking the whole application process much simpler for residents and authorities.

“We look forward to the integration of the fire permit website at council when the time comes but for now, we encourage everyone to visit and make use of the new Fire Permits Victoria website.

“We are also happy to respond to any queries residents may have and assist them with their existing fire permits held with us too.”

Further information on fire permits is available at Permit to Burn West Wimmera Shire Council or by calling 13 99 72.
