West Wimmera Shire residents will enter stage 3 restrictions from 11.59pm on Wednesday due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Council staff are currently awaiting more information about what packages and services will be available to businesses and residents during this time.

Businesses forced to close during these restrictions could have access to state and federal government support packages and council is seeking more information about what these packages will include.

Council will endeavour to share more information to the community regarding COVID-19 restrictions as they come to light.

As per previous stage 3 restrictions, many public facilities will close from Wednesday night, including playgrounds, skate parks, libraries, and camping grounds.

Home care services will continue as normal, however new mask requirements mean that carers, as well as the person receiving care, must wear a mask during home visits. This is to ensure the safety of both the carers and the vulnerable people in our community.

Currently, Council does not have any masks available to give to the public. A new state government scheme means that Council will eventually be sent a supply to give to vulnerable residents. When these arrive, they will be given to those people who currently receive home care.

Both three-year-old and four-year-old kindergartens will continue to operate as normal during the restriction period.

Anyone experiencing personal hardship is encouraged to contact Council and speak to our intake team. There is also a number of support services in our region that are available. Services include:

  • Uniting Care Wimmera: 1800 195 114
  • Red Cross: 1800 232 969
  • Rural Outreach Program: 1300 688 732
  • Beyond Blue: 1300 66 4636

More information about what Council services are and are not operating during state 3 restrictions can be found at westwimmera.vic.gov.au.
