West Wimmera Shire Council hopes to improve social connections within the community through a new wellness campaign.

Council received funding through the state government’s new Community Activation and Social Isolation (CASI) initiative. The initiative is intended to help people who might be feeling lonely or have lost their regular networks as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program aims to help people build social connections and networks of support within their community.

As part of the program, West Wimmera Shire Council has engaged The Resilience Project to deliver a 10-part digital wellbeing series.

The guided program focuses on building habits and changing behaviours. It involves 10 videos, each about two to three minutes long, which address a key factor to wellbeing through storytelling.

Each video is accompanied by communications that highlight the research and accessible ways to practice in everyday life.

Manager Community Support and Wellbeing Tracey Bone said topics covered in the series included gratitude, empathy, mindfulness, emotional literacy, devices, social connection, living with purpose, healthy eating, sleep and exercise.

“Videos and information will be posted on Council’s Facebook page and our website each Wednesday,” she said.

“Council is committed to the ongoing development of our resident’s wellbeing through programs that make a difference.

“We hope this weekly communications will help people develop their resilience to improve positive connections within their local community.”

The CASI initiative has also been contributed to the facilitation of intergenerational walks in the shire, along with an iPad program to further assist connections.
