Contractors will commence aquatic weed cutting at Lake Wallace on Thursday 16 January as part of Councils ongoing maintenance program.

These aquatic weed harvesting works are an important step in managing the health of the lake, especially with challenges posed by varying water levels. This is planned and delivered in consultation with relevant experts and as part of a proactive management strategy designed to meet the ecological needs of the lake in a practical and sustainable manner.

The weed harvesting will help maintain water quality and prevent future issues by managing nutrient levels that can lead to algae blooms and excessive weed growth. Additionally, the harvesting supports biodiversity and environmental balance by ensuring the lake remains a healthy habitat for fish, birds, and other wildlife.

The weed harvesting will hopefully also enhance recreational opportunities by improving access to areas for activities like fishing, kayaking, and boating. With respect to boating, Council do have designs ready to extend the boat ramp, this can unfortunately only be executed when the water levels are low enough.

A temporary staging area will be set up, marked with bunting, to ensure the safety of the public while the works are underway. The community is welcome to go and have a look at the weed harvesting activities, but we request everybody to please respect the safety measures put in place. If you have any questions or queries, please direct them to Council, not to the contractor.
