West Wimmera Shire Council has recognised the achievements of three outstanding secondary students, presenting its annual Student Citizenship Awards at school presentation nights this week.

The awards acknowledge students who demonstrate leadership, commitment to their studies, and positive contributions to their school and the wider community.

Each secondary college in the shire selects its recipient using criteria set by Council.

Recipients are chosen for their willingness to accept responsibility, active participation in school life, ability to set a mature example, and strong interactions with staff, peers, and younger students.

They also demonstrate sound and responsible attitudes to learning and are involved in activities that benefit the broader community.

The 2025 Student Citizenship Award recipients are Aria Wilson from Goroke College, Keira Jewell from Kaniva College, and Charlotte Henderson from Edenhope College.

At Goroke College, Cr Tom Houlihan presented the award to Aria Wilson, recognising her enthusiasm, leadership, and strong involvement in both school and community activities. Aria has taken on leadership roles in college events, supported younger students, and shared her musical talents at community fundraisers.

At Kaniva College, Cr Richard Hicks presented the award and the R.G. Hicks Memorial Cup to Keira Jewell, acknowledging her consistent leadership and commitment to her school and community.

Keira has served on both the Student Representative Council and College Council, acted as school captain, and has been actively involved in community organisations and advocacy programs for rural students.

At Edenhope College, the award was presented by Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout to Charlotte Henderson, who was recognised for her dedication to her studies, positive attitude, and respectful engagement with others.

Charlotte has been a committed student throughout the year and a strong role model within the school community.

Each recipient received a framed certificate and $300 to support their future education.

Mr Bezuidenhout said all the recipients were extremely deserving.

“Council believes it is important to acknowledge and encourage students who strive for excellence,” he said.

“It’s inspiring to see so many young people striving to make a difference in our communities.”

Eligible recipients are students undertaking the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or the VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) in 2025.

Council extends its congratulations to Aria, Keira, and Charlotte for their remarkable achievements and contributions.
