New footpaths planned for Kaniva, Goroke and Edenhope

West Wimmera Shire Council will seek State Government funding to deliver new footpaths in Kaniva, Goroke and Edenhope.

Council endorsed an application to the Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program at its meeting on Wednesday.

The proposed project would deliver three priority footpath connections aimed at improving pedestrian safety, accessibility and connectivity across the municipality.

Community survey for Goroke childcare investigation

West Wimmera Shire Council is seeking community feedback as part of investigations into potential childcare services in Goroke.
Council is investigating funding through the Australian Government’s Building Early Education Fund.
The funding supports the building or expansion of early childhood education and care services.

More kindergarten hours coming in 2027

West Wimmera Shire families can now register for three-year-old kindergarten in 2027.
As part of the State Government’s Pre-Prep rollout, four-year-old kindergarten will increase to 20 hours per week from 2027, expanding to 30 hours per week by 2031.
To support planning for these changes, families are invited to add their child’s name to the 2027 three-year-old kindergarten waiting list.

A beginner-friendly poetry workshop exploring modern English haiku, led by Melbourne poet and playwright Louise Hopewell. Participants will learn how contemporary haiku uses imagery, juxtaposition and “aha moments” rather than traditional 5-7-5 structure. The session includes writing exercises, an introduction to senryu, and ideas for reading and sharing short-form poetry
