More kindergarten hours coming in 2027

West Wimmera Shire families can now register for three-year-old kindergarten in 2027.
As part of the State Government’s Pre-Prep rollout, four-year-old kindergarten will increase to 20 hours per week from 2027, expanding to 30 hours per week by 2031.
To support planning for these changes, families are invited to add their child’s name to the 2027 three-year-old kindergarten waiting list.

Learning grows at Kaniva Kindergarten

Kaniva Kindergarten has introduced two new programs to support children’s mental health and wellbeing and hands-on learning in gardening and cooking.
The service recently implemented the Be You program and the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program.
The Be You initiative focuses on children’s mental health and wellbeing by supporting their social and emotional development.

Draft budget 2026-27 released for community feedback

West Wimmera Shire Council has endorsed its 2026-27 draft budget, with a continued focus on financial sustainability, service delivery and investment in critical infrastructure.
Council endorsed both the 2026-27 draft budget and annual plan at a meeting on Wednesday.

West Wimmera Shire draft budget 2026-27

Submissions closing on 11 May 2026, 12:00 PM

West Wimmera Shire Council’s 2026-27 Draft Budget and Annual Plan were endorsed by Council at its meeting on 15 April 2026 and are now on public exhibition for community feedback.

Council will consider community feedback prior to the formal adoption of the budget and annual plan at a future Council meeting.
