Council refreshes business grant to support shopfront improvements

West Wimmera Shire Council has endorsed a refreshed approach to its business grant program, with updates designed to make it easier for local businesses to access funding and invest in their shopfronts.

At its March meeting, Council approved amendments to the newly named Shopfront Improvement Grant Program, replacing the former Business Streetscape Grant.

Community invited to have their say on Draft Kaniva Structure Plan

West Wimmera Shire Council is inviting community feedback on the Draft Kaniva Structure Plan, which will guide the future growth and development of Kaniva.
The plan sets out a long-term vision for the town, including future land use, housing, infrastructure, transport and town amenities.

Council reaffirms commitment to early years services

West Wimmera Shire Council has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to operate kindergarten and childcare services across the shire, while exploring opportunities to strengthen long-term sustainability through partnerships.
At a meeting on Wednesday, Council received an update on the current delivery of early years services and the increasingly complex operating environment.

Expression of Interest - Removal of Kaniva Scout Hall

West Wimmera Shire Council is seeking Expressions of Interest for the removal or demolition of the former Scouts Hall located at 19 Young Street, Kaniva.

Council is inviting proposals from individuals or businesses willing to remove the building either at no cost or at a cost considered low by market standards, generally less than $5,000.

Harrow Sound and Light Show 2026

21 March 2026

Step back into the 1850s with the Harrow by Night Sound & Light Show, a lively outdoor theatre experience based on the history of Harrow. Run entirely by local volunteers, the evening features a two-course meal at the historic Hermitage Hotel, live bush band music and an entertaining cast of historical characters including bushrangers, mounted troopers and townsfolk from the past.

Cancer Support Group - March 2026

The Cancer Support Group meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month.

Everyone is welcome. Community members are encouraged to bring along friends or family who may benefit from the conversation. The group provides a supportive and understanding space to talk, reflect and connect.

Day of the Dackel 2026

29 March 2026

Day of the Dackel is a fun community event celebrating dachshunds and small dogs. The day includes dachshund racing, a hobby race, fun dog show, market stalls, takeaway food and coffee. The dog show begins at 10.15am, with racing taking place after lunch. A $200 cash prize will be awarded to the Dackel Dash Final winner. The event is held in memory of Neddy von Noodle (2009–2025).
