Background Information

West Wimmera Shire Council is supporting the development of new cricket training facilities at the Kaniva Recreation Reserve to provide the Kaniva Cricket Club with a permanent, purpose-built training venue.

The need for a dedicated training facility was identified through the Kaniva Recreation Reserve Masterplan, which includes a new cricket training facility to the south-west of the reserve oval.

The project designs have been developed in collaboration with the Kaniva Cricket Club, Cricket Victoria and Sport and Recreation Victoria, with co-funding support from Sport and Recreation Victoria during the design development process to ensure the facility meets the club’s needs and aligns with relevant standards and guidelines.

West Wimmera Shire Council is now seeking funding through the Victorian Government's Local Sports Infrastructure Fund to deliver construction of the project.

Scope

The Kaniva Cricket Training Facilities Project will include:

  • Construction of a new two-lane cricket training facility
  • Construction of a spectator area/other ancillary items (footpath, seats etc)
  • Construction of dedicated cricket storage (a modified shipping container)
  • General siteworks including septic alteration, drainage and landscaping etc
  • Detailed design works for all items

These upgrades will provide a modern training facility that supports player development, increases participation opportunities and strengthens the long-term sustainability of cricket in Kaniva.
