WEST Wimmera Shire Council has named Harrow's Lachlan Turner as the 2019 Senior Citizen of the Year.

Mr Turner was presented the award at the senior citizens concert in Goroke on Wednesday. He was one of 12 people nominated for the award.

Mr Turner founded the "Classic Scramble" motorbike event in Harrow in the early 2000s. The event was followed by the Vindero Motorbike Event in 2008.

He is an active supporter and promoter of both events, which bring tens of thousands of dollars in economic benefit to the Harrow community and surrounding businesses.

Now aged in his 80s, Mr Turner still volunteers at these events.

Mr Turner said he enjoyed being involved in the motorbike events.

"I just like to poke me nose in – I get good fellowship out of it," he said.

Mr Turner said the Vindero was on the last weekend in July each year.

"It brings people in from Victoria, ACT, Queensland, NSW and South Australia," he said.

The Senior Citizen of the Year award recognises shire residents aged 60 years or more who have made a difference to community wellbeing, have a positive attitude towards aging, continue to be active in their community, and encourage others to do the same.

Cr Richard Hicks presented Mr Turner with the award on Wednesday.

He said Mr Turner was a great asset to the Harrow community.

"He is considered a very important figure by the event organisers," he said.

"He's contribution is recognised as a great success and of great value to the community."

The other award nominees were Anne Nuzum, Deanna Farran-Field, Elsa Williams, Helen Mulraney-Roll, Lynette Powell, Marion Major, Therese Burgess and Edenhope Anglican Op Shop committee members Dorothy White, Jeannie Clayton, Lorraine Defrederick, and Val Winfield,

All nominees received a certificate from the shire.
