West Wimmera Shire caravan parks will soon have more accommodation options, after Council received funding for two new tourism projects.

West Wimmera Shire Council has received $1.05 million from the State Government’s Regional Tourism Investment Fund to upgrade the Edenhope Lakeside Caravan Park.

Council will also contribute $350,000 towards the project.

Meanwhile, new accommodation cabins installed at Harrow, Goroke, Lake Charlegrark and Kaniva as part of a joint Council and Wimmera Development Association initiative.

The $1.4-million upgrade of the Edenhope caravan park will involve creating 10 new powered sites along the foreshore of Lake Wallace, as well as building a new all-access building that will include a camp kitchen, games room, laundry, and amenities block.

Old infrastructure will be demolished as part of the redevelopment. There will also be some landscaping works.

The redevelopment aims to increase capacity and accessibly at the caravan park to improve visitor experience by providing a relaxing and enjoyable holiday experience with access to high-quality facilities.

The WDA has received $3 million from the State Government’s Regional Tourism Investment Fund for its cabins project, which will involve construction of 30 cabin accommodation units across 15 Wimmera caravan parks.

Council will contribute $500,000 towards the project.

Kaniva Caravan Park will receive a three-bedroom cabin, and a two-bedroom disability accessible cabin.

Lake Charlegrark Caravan Park will receive two three-bedroom cabins.

Harrow Caravan Park and Goroke Caravan Park will each receive a motel-style cabin and a three-bedroom cabin.

Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said both these projects would help attract more visitors to the shire.

“The Edenhope Lakeside Caravan Park upgrade will modernise, and increase the capacity of the park,” he said.

“This investment will provide guests with an improved opportunity to stay on the edge of Lake Wallace, in the heart of Edenhope, with access to natural attractions the region has to offer.”

Mr Bezuidenhout said there was a need for more mid-range, mid-priced, cabin accommodation in the region.

“The aim of the cabins project is to meet the well-known gaps in the region’s accommodation options by providing consistent, quality, self-contained cabins,” he said.

“We look forward to working with the caravan parks and the Wimmera Development Association on these important projects.”

The WDA project will also include new cabins in Yarriambiack and Hindmarsh shires.
