Community Strengthening Grants awarded - round 1 2023

West Wimmera Shire Council has awarded money to six community groups as part of its Community Strengthening Grants Program.

The grants applications were submitted under round one of the 2023 grant program.

Council approved applications received from Goroke Lions Club, Kaniva Golf Club, Edenhope Apsley Football Netball Club, Kaniva A&P Society, Lawloit CFA, and Kaniva Community Sporting Complex

Goroke Lions Club will receive $5000 to go towards a new lawn mower. The group maintains the lawns at the Goroke Cemetery, Lake Ratzcastle, and the Lions Park at Goroke.

Edenhope Apsley Football Netball Club received $5000 to go towards replacing its fridges to more energy‐saving, efficient fridges.

Kaniva Community Sporting Complex received $4620.27 to go towards servicing its gym equipment and upgrading its treadmill.

Kaniva Golf Club will receive $4502 to go towards upgrading its outdoor area to enable a larger function space.

Lawloit CFA received $3148.48 to go towards single‐axil trailer for a quick‐fill pump unit and ancillary equipment.

Kaniva A&P Society received $1986 to purchase 10 banner signs for the Kaniva Show.

Mayor Tim Meyer said it was great to be able to award the community groups money for these important projects.

“These are all worthy projects that will benefit the local communities,” he said.

Cr Meyer said all the applications were of good merit that would benefit the community.

The Community Strengthening Grants program is designed to promote and increase participation of residents in community initiatives, to build and strengthen local networks and partnerships, and to support community leadership, learning, and skill development.

This funding has two rounds each year and there are three categories for the funding – community projects, community events, and facilities upgrades. Grants of up to $5000 are available for some categories.

The next round of funding will open on September 4.
