Council adopts 2024-25 draft budget

West Wimmera Shire Council has adopted its 2024-25 draft budget, emphasising community needs and infrastructure enhancement.

Following careful deliberation, the Council has formulated a balanced budget aimed at improving service quality and efficiency across various sectors.

The 2024-25 draft budget has a capital works program of $13.005 million.

Council's budget priorities include infrastructure maintenance, education, healthcare, tourism, and economic development.

This reflects the Council's commitment to addressing the diverse needs of the community and fostering sustainable growth and prosperity.

The draft budget adheres to a 2.75% rate cap, reflecting the Council's dedication to providing the lowest rates possible in the region while maintaining essential services and infrastructure.

A significant portion of the budget has been earmarked for capital works projects. This includes a budgeted $6.109 million, and an additional $6.391 million in federal and state government funding.

These investments will play a vital role in driving growth and development throughout the region, ensuring the longevity and sustainability of essential infrastructure.

This capital works program includes $3.736 million for upgrades of existing assets; $1.280 million for new assets; and $7.989 million for renewal of critical infrastructure assets.

Mayor Tim Meyer said West Wimmera Shire Council valued community feedback. He invites residents to participate in the budget consultation process.

"This budget reflects our ongoing commitment to meeting the needs of our community while ensuring responsible financial management.

“We are excited about the opportunities it presents for growth and development in West Wimmera Shire."

Residents are encouraged to review the 2024-25 draft budget and provide feedback by 5pm on May 16.

The draft budget document is available for public review on the Council's website, accessible through the 'Have Your Say' section.
