Don’t forget to renew your animal registration in 2026

West Wimmera Shire Council is reminding residents that annual animal registration renewals are approaching.
All dogs and cats aged over three months must be registered with Council, in line with the Domestic Animals Act 1994.
Registrations for the 2026/27 period are due by 10 April.
Renewal notices have been printed and should arrive in residents’ mailboxes over the coming week.
Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said registration played an important role in reuniting lost pets with their owners.
“Ensuring dogs and cats are registered from three months of age significantly increases the likelihood of a safe return if they become lost,” he said.
Eligible concessions are available for pension card holders, as well as for pets that are desexed, over 10 years of age, or recognised as working animals or registered with approved organisations.
Payments can be made via BPAY using the details provided on the renewal notice.
Residents paying for multiple animals are reminded to use the correct reference number for each pet to ensure registrations are processed accurately.
Registrations can also be completed over the phone through Council’s customer service team, or in person at customer service centres in Edenhope and Kaniva.
Residents are encouraged to contact Council to update their details if they have moved, or if their pet is no longer living.
Failure to register an eligible dog or cat may result in a fine.
Registration is not required for small animals such as birds, fish or other household pets.
