WEST Wimmera Shire buildings and council offices are becoming more energy efficient after new electrical works.
Laser Electrical Horsham is completing a range of upgrades at council offices, kindergartens, and halls at Kaniva, Edenhope and Goroke, which will make the buildings more efficient and reduce energy costs.
The $100,000-upgrade is being jointly funded through Sustainability Victoria and West Wimmera Shire Council.
Works started last month and include LED lighting upgrades at Edenhope and Kaniva council offices, Edenhope Business Centre, Edenhope Kindergarten, Goroke Pre-School Centre, Kaniva Caravan Park, Kaniva Library, Kaniva Kindergarten, Kaniva Shire Hall, Kaniva Tourist Information Centre, Kaniva Neighbourhood House, and Kaniva Depot.
New solar photovoltaic systems are being installed at Edenhope and Kaniva council offices, Goroke Pre-School Centre, Kaniva Kindergarten, Kaniva Tourist Information Centre, and Kaniva Depot.
Edenhope Senior Citizens Centre will also get a new timer for its domestic hot water unit.
Council chief executive David Leahy said the works should be completed by mid-December.
"This is a wonderful initiative for the council and will ensure that many community buildings in the shire will run more efficiently for years to come," he said.
Mr Leahy said the project was put out for tender and Laser Electrical Horsham was awarded the contract.
The anticipated energy savings for council following the upgrades will be about $31,000 a year.
