Kaniva Recreation Reserve oval will receive brand new lighting as part of a new major upgrade.

West Wimmera Shire Council has received $250,000 from the State Government’s Country Football Netball Funding Program 2023/2024 to replace the lighting at Kaniva Recreation Reserve.

The money will be used to upgrade the current oval lighting at the Kaniva Recreation Reserve so it meets current AFL training standards.

This upgrade will involve the replacement of the existing lighting poles at the oval, significantly improving the quality and coverage of lighting across the oval and usability of this space for both players and spectators.

Council has contributed $38,334 towards the project in partnership with the Kaniva Leeor United Football Netball Club, which has contributed $45,000.

Council Chief Executive Officer Daivd Bezuidenhout said the lighting upgrade would not only improve the quality of play for the football club, but also create a safer and more welcoming environment for everyone who enjoyed the facilities, expanding the possibilities of other activities in this space.

“The current lights do not give out enough light to cover the entire ground, which can make nighttime training sessions very difficult,” he said.

“We are grateful for the support we have received from the Kaniva Leeor United Football Netball Club for this project as without community contributions projects such as these could not occur.”

West Wimmera Shire Council is committed to fostering increased community participation and investing in projects that enhance the wellbeing of its residents.

The lighting upgrade at the Kaniva Recreation Reserve oval aligns with this commitment and demonstrates the Council's dedication to providing top-notch facilities for both sporting and community events.
