West Wimmera Shire Council is set to upgrade the Edenhope Recreation Reserve football changerooms, with a new $1.6 million project.

The project is funded by a $1 million grant from the State Government, $240,000 from West Wimmera Shire, and $360,000 from the Edenhope-Apsley Football Netball Club.

The project will include the construction of new changing facilities at the Edenhope Recreation Reserve.

Council received $1 million from the State Government’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

The current changerooms are some of the oldest facilities in the shire and do not meet current AFL standards.

This redevelopment will provide compliant football change facilities, which will include:

  • Two new changerooms including toilets and showers,
  • Two umpire changerooms including toilet and showers
  • First aid room
  • Toilets facilities for public use

This facility will be constructed in a new location in between the netball courts and the football oval.

Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said Council was committed to enhancing community infrastructure and supporting local sports clubs.

“This upgrade is long overdue, and we're pleased to receive this funding so we can make this project a reality,” he said.

“We believe the facility will not only benefit the Edenhope-Apsley Football Netball Club but also serves as a hub for community events and activities.

“We thank the State Government for the generous funding, and we look forward to delivering new state-of-the-art facilities at Edenhope Recreation Reserve.”

The project complements the work that Council has completed over the past few years at Apsley, Harrow, Kaniva and Goroke recreational facilities.

“We are still also committed to delivering all the projects where we have missed out on funding,” Mr Bezuidenhout said.

“We believe it will only be a matter a time before we find funding opportunities to continue with projects such as the Kaniva Splash Park and all-amenities pool facilities.

“To place even more focus on chasing grants, we have advertised for a dedicated Grants Officer position, and hope this will help us to deliver even more projects which will benefit West Wimmera communities in the future.”
