Funding secured for key community upgrades

West Wimmera Shire Council has successfully secured State Government funding to deliver a series of important upgrades to community and sporting facilities across the shire.
Council has received funding for works at the Serviceton Bowling Club, Edenhope Swimming Centre, and the Harrow Recreation Reserve.
These projects will address ageing infrastructure, improve accessibility, and support the long-term sustainability of valued community assets.
Funding has been received through the State Government’s 2025-26 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund to support the delivery of these projects.
At Serviceton, Council will deliver a new seven-rink bowling green, along with upgraded accessible amenities, carparking and pathways.
The project will replace the existing natural turf green with a modern synthetic surface, reducing the heavy maintenance burden on volunteers and ensuring the club can continue operating.
At Harrow Recreation Reserve, new AFL and netball LED scoreboards will replace existing manual systems.
The proposed upgrade will provide improved visibility for players and spectators, reduce manual processes, and bring the site’s sporting facilities in line with modern expectations.
At Edenhope, the development of schematic designs for the swimming pool and changerooms will focus on upgrading ageing infrastructure, improving accessibility, and ensuring the centre meets modern safety and inclusion standards. These designs will be vital for securing future funding opportunities to upgrade the swimming centre.
Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said securing funding for all three projects was a strong outcome for the community.
“These projects will deliver meaningful improvements to facilities that are well used and highly valued by their communities,” he said.
“From reducing the workload on volunteers to improving accessibility and safety, these upgrades will make a real difference for local residents and visitors alike.”
Harrow and Serviceton will be supported by major community contributions ensuring these vital community projects can proceed.
Council will now work closely with community stakeholders to progress each project through the next stages of delivery.
