West Wimmera Shire Council is calling for residents to help shape the 2022-23 budget.

Council invites residents to let them know what they would like to see included in next year’s budget.

Council is currently working on the draft 2022-23 budget, with a focus on delivering the goals in the Council Plan 2021-25 which was developed last year through collaborative engagement with the community.

Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said in the past, Council would finalise the draft budget and then called for submissions from the community.

“Previously, we have only spoken to the community when the budget is almost complete,” he said.

“Through the new process we want the community to tell us throughout the year what they would like Council to be working on.”

“We want to know what projects or areas are important to our residents and where we can best direct our resources and focus.”

Mr Bezuidenhout said once the draft budget was completed, there would be an additional opportunity for the community to provide feedback.

Residents can submit ideas online through the West Wimmera Shire Council Innovation Platform either online or in person at the Council offices.

“The platform is a fantastic tool that was developed to help capture the ideas of the community, visitors and staff,” Mr Bezuidenhout said.

“It is a place where people can submit ideas and get their suggestions heard.

“The platform is also a great way to submit any other requests or ideas to Council.”

Council aims to complete the draft budget in May and adopt the final budget in June.

Each year, the Council budget seeks to maintain, improve, and enhance the level of infrastructure in the shire, as well as deliver projects and services that are valued by our communities.

“Help us shape what this year’s budget will look like,” Mr Bezuidenhout said.

Residents can make a submission online at westwimmera.vic.gov.au/Have-Your-Say/West-Wimmera-Innovation-Platform.

Innovation Platform ideas submitted by noon on 4th April will be considered for inclusion in the 2022-23 budget.
