Have your say on Council’s Community Engagement Policy
Published on 24 June 2025
West Wimmera Shire Council is currently reviewing its Community Engagement Policy and is inviting residents, community groups and stakeholders to provide feedback.
The policy outlines how Council involves the community in making decisions about the four-year Councils Plan, Rates and Revenue Plan, annual budgets, major projects, policies, strategies and other important matters.
The review aims to ensure the policy continues to reflect community expectations and strengthens the relationship between Council and the people it serves.
Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said the review demonstrated Council’s commitment to transparent and inclusive governance.
“Engaging with the community helps Council make better-informed decisions, understand local needs and priorities, and build stronger partnerships,” he said.
“This policy sets the standard for how we communicate and work with our community.”
The Community Engagement Policy is guided by principles such as creating opportunities for the community to contribute to Council decisions; supporting clear and accessible communication; ensuring fair and inclusive representation; promoting transparency; and ensuring all engagement activities are purposeful and well-planned.
Community members are encouraged to view the Draft Community Engagement Policy and provide feedback by 5pm on Monday, 14 July.
The draft policy is available to view on Council’s website here, or printed copies are available from Council’s Customer Service Centres in Kaniva and Edenhope.
Feedback can be submitted via email to council@westwimmera.vic.gov.au.
All submissions will be reviewed and considered before the policy is finalised and adopted.
