Have your say on future waste and recycling services

West Wimmera Shire Council is inviting residents to complete a new survey about the future of waste and recycling services across the Shire.

Council is reviewing its waste and recycling services to ensure they continue to meet the needs of our community while remaining practical, sustainable and financially responsible into the future.

The review comes as waste services across Victoria continue to change, with new State Government requirements, evolving recycling practices and increasing costs affecting how councils deliver these essential services.

Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said community feedback would be an important part of the review.

“Waste services are something that affect households across our entire Shire, so it is important we understand what is working well and where there may be opportunities to do things differently,” he said.

“The decisions we make about these services need to consider the needs of our community, as well as the changing requirements and costs associated with waste management.”

The survey asks residents about a range of current and future waste services, including kerbside collections, glass recycling, food and garden organics, transfer stations and free waste disposal programs.

Community members are also asked about their use of the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme and their views on potential changes to waste and recycling services.

Mr Bezuidenhout said the survey would provide Council with a better understanding of community priorities as it considers the future of waste services.

“We want to hear from people who use our waste services regularly, as well as those who may have different experiences or suggestions for how services could be improved,” he said.

Residents are encouraged to complete the survey and share their views to help Council plan waste and recycling services for the future.
