West Wimmera Shire Council is pleased to welcome the Trakmaster Off-Road Caravan Club to the region next month.

The club will be hosting their annual gathering in Kaniva from March 30 to April 6.

Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said this was a fantastic opportunity for the town, and the shire as a whole, with about 200 people expected to attend the annual gathering.

“We are very excited to welcome the caravan club and hope they take advantage of the many attractions we have here in West Wimmera Shire,” he said.

The week is expected to generate more than $60,000 for the local economy.

The caravans will stay at the Kaniva Recreation Reserve.

Kaniva businesses have been urged to take advantage of the gathering and make the visiting caravaners feel welcome.

West Wimmera Shire Council is running a ‘best dressed’ window competition, and business owners are encouraged to decorate their shop windows to welcome the visitors.

There will be prizes for the best window, which will be judged by members of the group.

West Wimmera Shire Council is also providing a showbag for each caravan on arrival, which will include tourism information, and vouchers to be spent at local businesses.

The Trakmaster Off-Road Caravan Club was formed in 2003 and now has more than 300 members.

Each year they have an annual gathering either in Victoria or interstate, which involves about 100 caravans.

The gatherings aim to bring an economic boost to small communities.
