Libraries Deliver Community Wellbeing Programs Across West Wimmera
Published on 14 January 2026
West Wimmera Shire Council is hosting a new series of community wellbeing programs delivered by Wimmera Libraries through the Community Cohesion Program.
The program recognises libraries as trusted local spaces that bring people together through learning, creativity and shared experiences, particularly during times of social and economic pressure.
Funded by the Australian Library and Information Association and the Office for Social Cohesion, the initiative aims to strengthen connection, resilience and belonging across West Wimmera communities.
A range of free programs will be delivered across Edenhope, Goroke, Harrow and Kaniva during February and March.
In Edenhope, Postcard to a Local: Native Species Art Exhibition, invites participants to create a postcard-sized artwork and message inspired by a local plant or animal, which will be showcased in a community exhibition. An art-making workshop will be held in mid-January, with an exhibition launch featuring a guest talk on the rare south-eastern red-tailed black cockatoo.
Wellbeing workshops focused on decluttering and healthy eating on a budget will be held in Edenhope and Goroke, providing practical tools to manage daily pressures in a supportive environment.
Harrow and Edenhope libraries will also host brain health and movement sessions designed to support healthy ageing, social connection and confidence.
In March, Kaniva will welcome award-winning Australian author Sofie Laguna for a full-day writing workshop, offering participants the opportunity to explore storytelling in a welcoming and creative space.
Director Corporate and Community Services Dalton Burns said the programs were designed to offer practical, uplifting experiences for people of all ages.
“These activities are about making everyday life feel lighter and more connected, whether that’s through creative expression, practical wellbeing skills, movement or storytelling,” he said.
“They also reflect Council’s commitment to inclusive communities, when people feel safe, included and supported, communities thrive, and libraries play a vital role in making that happen.”
All programs are free and open to the community, with bookings required due to limited places.
