Electric vehicle fast chargers will soon be available in Edenhope and Kaniva for motorists to use.

Evie Networks will install 50KW fast chargers in West Wimmera Shire towns as part of the State Government’s Destination Charging Across Victoria Program.

The program is creating a fast-charging network at key tourist destinations, high-use locations, and priority regional towns across Victoria.

The project aims to make regional towns more accessible to electric vehicle users.

At Edenhope, the fast charger, along with two charging bays, will be located in front of the telephone exchange building in Anzac Avenue, across from the public toilets.

In Kaniva, the fast charger and two charging bays will be at the Madden Street North carpark, near the public toilets.

The positions were strategically selected to encourage electronic vehicle users to explore local businesses and contribute to the local economy.

Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said the chargers would be an asset to the towns.

“Electric car users will have a reason to stop in Edenhope and Kaniva and while they are here, they can explore what our towns have to offer,” he said.

“This is a great way to embrace new technology and make our towns more appealing to travellers.”

Evie Networks is installing the chargers, as part of a plan to create fast charging stations in 55 towns and communities throughout rural and regional Victoria.

The fast chargers can provide up to 150km of range in just 30 minutes. The chargers have the capability to service more than 90 per cent of electric vehicles currently on the market with both CCS2 and Chademo charge plugs.

Installation of the chargers will occur at Edenhope and Kaniva over the next three to four weeks.

The project is funded by Evie Networks and the State Government.
