The new inclusive playground at Goroke Kindergarten was officially opened on Monday, providing children with a modern and accessible space to play, learn and connect.
West Wimmera Shire Council Mayor Tim Meyer joined families, staff and community members to celebrate the opening of the upgraded playground.
The project was made possible through $197,900 from the Department of Education’s Building Blocks Inclusion Grant program.
The Goroke Parent Advisory Group also contributed $2000 to the project and participated in the project control group, supporting the planning and delivery of the upgrade.
The new playground features a fully accessible wet-pour rubber surface, basket swing, trampoline and a range of inclusive play equipment designed for children of all abilities.
Cr Meyer said the new playground would provide important opportunities for children to develop social and physical skills through play.
“Play is such an important part of early childhood development,” he said.
“This new space gives children of all abilities the opportunity to play together, build confidence, develop coordination and enjoy imaginative outdoor play in a safe and welcoming environment.”
Cr Meyer acknowledged the contribution of kindergarten staff, contractors, Council staff and families involved in bringing the project to life.
“Projects like this are incredibly important for our rural communities and for supporting local families,” he said.
“The playground will be enjoyed by children and families for many years to come.”
The upgraded playground forms part of Council’s ongoing commitment to supporting accessible and inclusive early childhood facilities across West Wimmera Shire.
