In order to ensure fairness and equity between all ratepayers, Council’s Rate Recovery Policy provides clear guidance to Council officers about the effective and consistent recovery of overdue rates and charges.

The Policy works in conjunction with Council’s Financial Hardship Policy, which provides relief to ratepayers who are experiencing genuine financial hardship.

Every year, Council’s Director Corporate and Community Services must review the dollar thresholds which trigger various types of recovery action. This review has been undertaken, and the dollar threshold relating to the overdue amount that must be outstanding before the issue of a Magistrates’ Court Complaint has been reduced from $1,700 to $1,350.
