From the Environment Protection Agency Victoria
EPA has taken another important step in site remediation. We have advertised for a suitably qualified contractor to submit a proposal to undertake the next stage of remediation. We're managing procurement in line with government procurement practices. It is anticipated that a successful contractor will be on-site in late 2020. This is a large, complex and isolated site. Remediation will take a while and is occurring in several stages.
The first stage was conducted in late 2019. A partial excavation of the three bigger underground dump locations was completed. This helped us understand the type and volume of waste likely to have been buried at the site. The second stage of remediation will focus on clean up of one of these larger underground burial sites. All waste excavated will be sampled and taken to an appropriately licensed facility for disposal. We are continuing to pursue recovery of clean up costs.
