Early years services recognised for wellbeing and physical activity

Edenhope Early Childhood Service, Goroke Preschool and Kaniva Kindergarten have received State Government recognition for excellence in mental health and wellbeing and physical activity and movement.

The three services achieved the milestone through the Healthy Places Healthy Futures framework, formerly known as the Healthy Early Childhood Services Achievement Program.

The recognition reflects the services’ work in supporting children’s health, wellbeing, learning and development through everyday practice.

Educators provide opportunities for active play, dance, outdoor exploration, nature play and movement experiences throughout the day.

Children are encouraged to build healthy habits through regular physical activity and positive social interactions.

West Wimmera Shire Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said the achievement recognised the dedication of educators across all three services.

“These results reflect the strong commitment of our early years teams to creating environments where children can thrive physically, socially and emotionally,” he said.

“Movement and wellbeing are embedded into everyday learning, helping children develop confidence, resilience and healthy habits that can support them throughout life.”

The achievement was celebrated with movement activities including conga dancing and outdoor music sessions.

The activities gave children opportunities to move, laugh, follow rhythms and participate together in an inclusive environment.

The services are now working towards completing the final Sustainability and Health module of the framework.

This work includes helping children connect with nature, learn about sustainability and develop an understanding of caring for the environment and their community.

Once completed, Edenhope, Goroke and Kaniva will have achieved all modules of the Healthy Places Healthy Futures framework.
