Youth Action For West Wimmera in 2022

Published on 16 December 2021

West Wimmera Shire Council is opening opportunities for their young people to form a Youth Action Team starting in early 2022.

The past two years have seen a lull in participation in Youth Programs, due to the isolation imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now that face-to-face interactions and events can be held, it is time to get excited about possibilities for the future, and for young people to have an active role in setting up events, and programs they want to see in the West Wimmera.

There is an awareness that most young people have very full lives and cannot commit to a full year of participation. Therefore, Councils Youth Action Team will be flexible in that team members can opt-in and out depending on their availability and the projects that may interest them. A level of commitment and reliability in the team is required, but emphasis is on flexibility.

The team will work on planning and running events, social nights, team and personal development and recognition and rewards for everyone involved. Meetings will be local – small subgroups in Kaniva, Edenhope and Goroke with every 4th meeting as combined, doing something fun, with an emphasis on collaboration.

Participant numbers will not be capped for this reason and Council will be encouraging all 12 – 25 year olds to be part of this exciting committee. Anyone over 18 will need a police check and Working With Children’s Check, but are strongly encouraged to be part of this team. Both of these checks will not cost the participant any money.
