West Wimmera Shire Council is inviting residents to take part in the Community Emergency Readiness Survey as part of the West Wimmera Shire Regional Resilience Initiative.
The survey has been developed to help Council better understand how prepared households are for bushfire and flood emergencies across the shire.
The fires of the 2025-26 summer highlighted how quickly emergency situations can escalate, particularly in rural landscapes where weather conditions, fuel loads and access routes can rapidly change.
The survey will help identify areas where households are well prepared, as well as areas where additional support, education and planning may be needed.
Information gathered will assist Council and emergency management partners to strengthen local resilience, improve communication strategies, support future planning and guide funding applications for emergency preparedness initiatives.
Questions within the survey cover topics including emergency awareness, evacuation planning, emergency kits, backup communication methods, plans for pets and livestock, and the use of local emergency information resources.
