West Wimmera Shire Council is exhibiting Draft Amendment C38wwim to the West Wimmera Planning Scheme.
The draft amendment proposes to update flood-related planning controls in Harrow and Chetwynd based on updated flood mapping. It also makes administrative changes to existing flood overlays in Dergholm and Connewirricoo
The draft amendment proposes to:
- Apply a new Floodway Overlay (FO1) to areas identified as being at higher risk of flooding in Harrow and Chetwynd.
- Update the Land Subject to Inundation Overlay (LSIO1) to reflect the latest flood mapping.
- Make administrative changes to the existing LSIO in Dergholm and Connewirricoo by introducing the LSIO1 schedule.
The draft amendment is based on flood investigations undertaken for Harrow and Chetwynd and updated mapping that takes into account the projected impacts of climate change.

What areas are affected?
The draft amendment applies to land in:
- Harrow
- Chetwynd
- Dergholm
- Connewirricoo
The proposed flood-related planning controls in Harrow and Chetwynd respond to updated flood mapping and are intended to manage development in areas at risk of riverine flooding.
The changes in Dergholm and Connewirricoo are administrative. Existing LSIO areas will be renamed LSIO1 to comply with the Ministerial Direction on the Form and Content of Planning Schemes. These changes do not alter the existing flood controls applying to these properties.
