Nominations to stand as a candidate for the West Wimmera Shire Council election open on Thursday 17 September and will close at 12 midday on Tuesday 22nd September.
"The West Wimmera Shire Council has five elected councillors representing all residents of our Municipality. There are a series of representative opportunities at both regional and local levels. If you want to give back to your community, I encourage you to nominate as a candidate" said West Wimmera Shire CEO David Leahy.
Candidate eligibility has recently changed with the introduction of mandatory online candidate training that must be completed before you can nominate. This includes candidates who are currently serving or have previously served as a councillor.
Candidates are further advised that if they would prefer to speak with someone from outside of the West Wimmera region, all of the regions CEO’s are making themselves available to candidate enquiries.
This year’s election will again be held by post with ballots posted out to voters in early October.
Candidates may make a nomination appointment with the Election Manager by calling 1300 142 701 from Wednesday 16 September. Candidates can also pre-fill a nomination form using the online Candidate Helper at candidatehelper.vec.vic.gov.au, available from Thursday 3 September 2020.
More information on nominating as a candidate is available on the VEC website at vec.vic.gov.au or contact the Governance Manager: (03) 5585 9900
