Shopfront Improvement Grant

The West Wimmera Shopfront Improvement Grant Program supports retail and hospitality businesses to enhance the appearance, accessibility, and functionality of their street-facing shopfronts within main street precincts.

The purpose of the program is to improve the streetscape, strengthen local business activity, and ensure accessible, welcoming environments for all. Through providing financial support, the program helps build a strong partnership between Council and business owners to deliver meaningful improvements that benefit the wider community.

Council has allocated $20,000 per year to the program. Grants of up to $5,000 (plus GST) are available per business on a $2 to $1 co-contribution basis, ensuring businesses maintain an active investment in their improvements while receiving substantial support from Council.

Applications will be accepted until the annual budget allocation is exhausted.

Eligible works include: accessibility upgrades (e.g. ramps, automatic doors), external painting and decorating, window and door upgrades, awnings and canopies, external lighting, serving windows, and other façade improvements.

Businesses wishing to apply must:

  • Operate a retail or hospitality business with a street-facing shopfront

  • Be located within the West Wimmera Shire

  • Hold a current ABN and all required permits and licences

  • Be a small business (fewer than 20 employees) and up to date with Council rates

  • Not have received funding from this program in the past two years

Applications will be assessed by a Council panel and funding will be allocated based on the merit, impact, and community value of each proposal.
