The Harrow Netball and Tennis Courts and Lighting Upgrade project has delivered modern, compliant playing facilities for local sporting clubs and the wider community. The upgraded courts support the Harrow-Balmoral Football Netball Club and Harrow Tennis Club, both of which are active in local competitions and junior development.
Before the upgrade, the ageing courts were no longer safe or fit for purpose, requiring significant volunteer effort each season to make the space suitable for alternating use by netball and tennis. This project replaced the deteriorated infrastructure with purpose-built courts and lighting to support increased participation and safety.
The project aligns with the Harrow and District Recreation Reserve Master Plan (2018), which outlined a long-term vision for improving the precinct and ensuring the facilities meet current standards.
The project involved the demolition of existing non-compliant courts and construction of:
Two new netball courts
Three new tennis courts
Lighting for night games and training
Fencing and player/official shelters
Accessible footpaths
Landscaping and site cleanup
The new facilities are built to Netball Victoria and Tennis Victoria local competition standards, with compliant safety run-offs and covered fittings to support year-round shared use.
Safer, compliant playing surfaces for both netball and tennis
Greater opportunities for evening and summer sport
Reduced maintenance burden on volunteers
