Background Information
Kaniva is situated on the Western Highway halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide. Traditionally Kaniva has been a drive through town but over the past 5-10 years there has been a push to change this with an aim to have travellers and tourist see Kaniva as a place to stop, break their trip up and stay the night.
Investment in the Sheep Art, Kaniva Wetlands and Fauna Park, Silo Art, as well as private investment into new shops and cafes, has supported this shift, however, to ensure the highest benefit of this is realised, the aim is to transfer stops into overnight stays.
The caravan park amenities block and camp kitchen at the Kaniva caravan park were built in the 1970s, and now fail to meet the basic needs and expectations of the 2021 caravanning and camping tourist. To ensure that West Wimmera Shire captures a share of the growing number of visitor night stays resulting from the increased visitation to the silo art trail and nature-based tourism more broadly, the new facility will provide accessible, family-friendly, modern facilities that improve the visitor experience in Kaniva.
Proposed Scope
This project will see the demolition of the old amenities block and the re-establishment of the site at the Kaniva Caravan Park. Works will include:
