West Wimmera Shire Council is inviting community feedback on schematic designs for the future renewal of the Goroke Swimming Centre.

The centre, now more than 40 years old, remains a valued community asset but is facing increasing challenges due to ageing infrastructure and limited accessibility.

Key components, including the amenities and plant room, are nearing the end of their lifespan and no longer meet modern standards.

Council has developed schematic designs that outline a proposed renewal of the facility.

The plans include a new amenities building, a new plant room, improved accessibility through a ramp entry and wet deck, and upgraded changerooms designed to meet current privacy and access standards.

Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said community feedback would play an important role in shaping the future of the facility.

“The Goroke Swimming Centre is an important part of the community, particularly during the summer months,” he said.

“These schematic designs are a key step in planning for the future, and feedback from the community will help ensure the project reflects local needs and priorities.”

The project has been supported by $40,000 from the State Government’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

The development of these designs positions the project to be construction-ready and strengthens Council’s ability to seek future funding.

Community members can view the plans and provide feedback through an online survey, available on Council’s website.

Hard copies of the plans are also available to view at Council’s Customer Service Centres in Kaniva and Edenhope.

Feedback closes at 5pm on Thursday 16 April.
